Duration: March 2026 – December 2026 (flexible start and end dates)

                Status: Full-time, fixed-term (non-permanent)

Ferme Grazing Days Farm is seeking a mechanically competent, hands-on individual for a fixed-term farm operations role during a planned transition year. The position focuses on livestock care, equipment maintenance and repair, and general farm upkeep, and is intended for someone looking for a clearly defined, non-permanent contract.

About the Farm:

Ferme Grazing Days Farm (www.grazingdays.ca) is a pasture-based livestock farm producing grass-fed beef, pastured chicken, and pastured pork for direct sale to families in the Ottawa, Gatineau, and Montreal regions.

We manage our land using regenerative grazing practices, with a strong focus on soil health, animal welfare, and practical, low-input systems.

The farm is entering a planned transition year. Our goal for this season is to maintain well-functioning systems, care properly for animals and land, and prepare equipment and infrastructure to a high standard.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The Operations, Equipment and Maintenance Technician will divide most of their time between the daily livestock tasks, seasonal farm work (fencing, haymaking, packing meat orders) and the repair and maintenance of farm machinery, buildings and infrastructure.

Most tasks are demonstrated initially and then carried out independently.

Grass-fed beef herd:

·         Assist with implementing the pasture and grazing plan

·         Assist with winter feeding and grazing logistics

·         Monitor cattle health and wellbeing

·         Move livestock to fresh pasture several times a day

·         Build, repair, and maintain electric fencing and water systems

Pastured Chicken Flock:

·         Monitor flock health during brooder and pasture phases

·         Move chicken coops and pasture infrastructure daily

·         Maintain fencing and water systems

General Operations:

·         Diagnose, repair, and maintain tractors and farm equipment

·         Prepare older equipment for sale and assist with Kijiji / Marketplace listings

·         Assist with hay and/or haylage production

·         Conduct building repair and maintenance (may include assisting with barn roof repairs alongside the owner or contractors)

·         Maintain farmyard, shop, warehouse, and workspaces

·         Assist with livestock shipping, meat pick-up, packing, and monthly inventory

The Operations, Equipment and Maintenance Technician will work directly with Paul Slomp, one of the owners of Grazing Days.

Job Requirements

·         Experience working on farms or in agricultural / mechanical settings

·         Comfort operating tractors and agricultural equipment

  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions

Assets:

  • Experience with pasture-based livestock
  • Welding, fabrication, or construction skills
  • Hay or forage production experience

Who This Role Is For

This position is well suited to someone who:

  • Is mechanically competent and comfortable diagnosing equipment issues
  • Enjoys routine, physical, outdoor work
  • Can work independently once shown a task
  • Is looking for a solid, defined year of work — not a long-term career track

Who This Role Is Not For

This role is not a good fit for someone who is:

  • Looking for a permanent or management position
  • Hoping to expand or redesign farm systems
  • Seeking a leadership or “build something new” role
  • Uncomfortable with hands-on mechanical or physical work

Ferme Grazing Days Farm practices employment equity and encourages applications from all qualified candidates.
