Ferme Grazing Days Farm is seeking a practical, hands-on individual for a fixed-term farm operations role during a planned transition year. The position focuses on livestock care, general farm clean-up and maintenance work with some machinery operation and maintenance, and is intended for someone looking for a clearly defined, non-permanent contract.
About the Farm:
Ferme Grazing Days Farm (www.grazingdays.ca) is a pasture-based livestock farm producing grass-fed beef, pastured chicken, and pastured pork for direct sale to families in the Ottawa, Gatineau, and Montreal regions.
We manage our land using regenerative grazing practices, with a strong focus on soil health, animal welfare, and practical, low-input systems.
The farm is entering a planned transition year. Our goal for this season is to maintain well-functioning systems, care properly for animals and land, and prepare equipment and infrastructure to a high standard.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
The Farm Operations & Maintenance Worker will divide their time between the daily livestock tasks, seasonal farm work (fencing, haymaking, packing meat orders) and clean up and maintenance of buildings, infrastructure, and farm machinery.
A significant portion of this role involves physical cleanup, organization, and improvement of farm spaces and infrastructure.
Most tasks are demonstrated initially and then carried out independently.
Grass-fed beef herd:
· Assist with implementing the pasture and grazing plan
· Assist with winter feeding and grazing logistics
· Monitor cattle health and wellbeing
· Move livestock to fresh pasture several times a day
· Build, repair, and maintain electric fencing and water systems
Pastured Chicken Flock:
· Monitor flock health during brooder and pasture phases
· Move chicken coops and pasture infrastructure daily
· Maintain fencing and water systems
General Operations:
· Maintain and clean up farmyard, shop, warehouse, and workspaces
· Assist with livestock shipping, meat pick-up, packing, and monthly inventory
· Assist with hay and/or haylage production
· Prepare older equipment for sale and assist with Kijiji / Marketplace listings
· Conduct building repair and maintenance (may include assisting with barn roof repairs alongside the owner or contractors)
The pace of work is steady and consistent throughout the season, with a focus on completing tasks thoroughly and independently
The Farm Operations & Maintenance Worker will work directly with Paul Slomp, one of the owners of Grazing Days.
